Product development

Idea to working board. One team.

Schematic, PCB layout, firmware, DFM, prototypes and the first small batch, all under one roof. You deal with one engineer and one purchase order instead of four vendors pointing at each other.

// What this is

Every stage of an electronics product, in one shop.

Most hardware projects stall in the gaps between vendors: the layout house blames the schematic, the assembler blames the layout, and nobody owns the firmware. We do every stage, so a problem found at bring-up gets fixed in the design, not argued about.

Squidtronic is an electronics design and assembly shop in Austin, Texas. We work with hardware teams in the Austin area in person and with teams anywhere in the US remotely.

Start wherever you are. With only an idea, we begin with requirements and a block diagram. With a schematic, we go straight to layout. With boards that don't work, we start at bring-up. Each stage can also be bought on its own.

Not sure where your project stands? Send what you have and we'll tell you which stage comes next, and what it would cost.

Describe your project

// Capabilities

What we cover.

RequirementsBlock diagram, power budget, interfaces, part shortlist
Schematic designPart selection with second sources, schematic capture, BOM costing
PCB layout2–12 layers, controlled impedance, DFM built in, KiCad or Altium
FirmwareBare-metal C/C++ and RTOS, drivers, wireless, bootloaders, OTA updates
DFM / DFAChecked against your fab and assembler's rules before you order
PrototypesParts sourcing, assembly, power-on test, bring-up
ProductionTest firmware and fixtures, programming, 1–1000 boards in-house; larger runs with a partner CM on one PO
Rework & repairBGA rework, reballing and board repair when a rev needs fixing

// Process

How a project runs.

01

Scope the problem

A call or written brief: what it must do, the constraints, the budget and the deadline. We send back a staged, fixed-price plan.

02

Design

Schematic and layout with a review at each milestone, so changes happen while they're cheap.

03

Build the first boards

We source parts, assemble a handful of prototypes, and bring them up on our bench.

04

Firmware and test

Firmware written against real hardware, plus a test procedure so you know every board works.

05

Hand over or scale

You get every source file. Order a small batch from us, or take the package to any manufacturer.

// Pricing

Quote-only.

Every stage is quoted at a fixed price before work starts. Big projects are split into stages, so you can stop after any of them and still own everything delivered up to that point.

// FAQ

Common questions.

Do I own the design?
Yes. Schematics, layout files, Gerbers and firmware source are yours, delivered in native formats.
Can you do only part of the project?
Yes. Every stage is also sold on its own: schematic design, PCB layout, firmware, DFM review, prototype builds or bring-up.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. Tick “Need an NDA?” on the quote form and we send a mutual NDA before you share anything sensitive.
How many boards can you build?
One prototype to 1000-board runs in-house. Larger volumes are quoted with a partner CM so you stay on a single purchase order.

Have an idea that needs electronics?

Tell us what it has to do. We'll come back with a staged plan, a fixed price per stage and a realistic timeline.
